On the 500th day of their sustained protest at Dharmatalla, SLST (State Level Selection Test) candidates resorted to symbolic acts of self-flagellation and face smearing with ink to draw attention to their ongoing struggle. The protest site, now declared by the opposition party, echoed with slogans of "10 years of deprivation, I do not accept it," as SLST candidates voiced their frustrations. Accusing the state government of neglecting their demands, candidates highlighted that neighboring Bihar had made 1 lakh 20 thousand temporary teachers permanent, while Bengal job seekers remained on the streets. The candidates pleaded with the government to address their concerns, emphasizing their eligibility and the need for immediate job opportunities.
SLST candidates, who claim to be qualified but unemployed, expressed disappointment over their prolonged protest. They asserted that despite being eligible, job offers have not materialized, leaving many who were meant to educate the youth now unemployed and disheartened. During the symbolic protests, some participants fell ill, emphasizing the emotional toll of the prolonged struggle. While Education Minister Bratya Basu had engaged with SLST job aspirants last month, questions lingered regarding the resolution of their concerns. The SLST movement, though receiving a glimmer of hope, still grapples with uncertainty, especially for primary SLST job seekers, who remain emotionally invested and seek clarity on their future.
